Wisconsin & virtual support groups

Mental health support groups, whether local or virtual, offer a unique blend of benefits by emphasizing self-help and relationship-building within a framework of mutual respect and empathy. These groups foster a culture where participants are honored as the experts of their own experiences and are met with genuine support rather than clinical intervention. Facilitators, who openly share their own experience, create an environment of transparency and understanding without the constraints of traditional clinical settings. Members can explore their thoughts and feelings freely, using ordinary language. By focusing on shared experiences and voluntary participation, these groups cultivate a respectful curiosity and acceptance of individuals as they are, ensuring that discussions are grounded in mutual support rather than assumptions of illness or predefined frameworks

Alternatives to Suicide is a peer led support group that allows participants to talk about suicidal thoughts, feelings, or experiences without fear of being judged. Participants share their struggles and successes, provide support for one another, and strategize about alternatives to help each other best cope with difficult life circumstances. People are encouraged to come in both times of strength and challenge;  you need not be in crisis to attend this group. Internet and Technology Addicts Anonymous (ITAA) is a peer-led support group for individuals seeking to recover from internet and technology addiction. The community provides a safe space for members to share experiences related to compulsive use of social media, smartphones, streaming content, gaming, online shopping, and other digital activities that can interfere with daily life. Both those struggling with addiction and their loved ones are encouraged to participate.

In Milwaukee, ITAA holds weekly meetings on Thursdays at 7:30 PM at the United Methodist Church located at 819 East Silver Spring Drive.

The meetings are open to all, allowing friends or family members to accompany those seeking support. Participants can enter through the main doors, veer right past the large office windows, and find the Wesley Room (111) on the left.

Online meeting schedule and resources are available on ITAA website.
